The Sandra Sefhako School of Feminism is a flagship program of the African Institute for Young People, dedicated to mentoring and training young African women to lead in areas of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), human rights, climate justice, and political and economic participation. The program empowers women to overcome patriarchy, engage meaningfully in decision-making, and build solidarity across communities and nations.
Named in honor of Sandra Sefhako, a prominent youth activist and Mandela Washington Fellowship alumni from Botswana who passed away in December 2024, the school celebrates her lifelong dedication to women’s rights and her vision for gender equality in Africa. Through mentorship, capacity-building workshops, advocacy training, and leadership development, participants gain the skills, knowledge, and confidence to champion women’s rights and lead transformative initiatives in their communities.
The school emphasizes inclusivity, solidarity, and Pan-African values, ensuring that women from diverse backgrounds, including marginalized groups, are equipped to navigate social, political, and economic spaces. By fostering leadership, civic engagement, and advocacy, the Sandra Sefhako School of Feminism honors her legacy and advances her vision of a continent where women lead, thrive, and contribute fully to Africa’s development and prosperity.
The African Institute For Young People (AIYP) is a youth-led movement demanding change across Africa. We fight for democracy, social and economic justice, climate action, and reparations, equipping young people to dismantle exclusion and shape the continent’s future—now.
