Project Vote 263 seeks to promote good governance in Zimbabwe through capacitating citizens to hold elected officials to account. Project Vote 263 creates platforms for citizens to engage with elected officials and empowers and magnifies the voices of citizens on issues of good governance, accountability and transparency. Project Vote 263 also promotes the respect of human rights and rule of law in Zimbabwe.
Accountability
Accountability in governance is an assurance that an individual or organisation is evaluated on its performance on something for which it is responsible. Project Vote 263 believes that the general citizen, including the young people, should have proper oversight in the government and its wings. We believe that if the government is subject to accountability it will effectively discharge its duties and the government will start to focus on the real issues rather than focusing on unproductive and distractive activities. The constitution of Zimbabwe reiterates on the issue of accountability on multiple occasions including the accountability of those in positions of influence. The constitution in section 3(2) talks about the principles of good governance and accountability is mentioned as a huge pillar hence we as Project Vote 263 seek to promote public accountability
Transparency
Transparency in governance terms refers to being open and honest. As part of our efforts to have a transparent government, we demand disclosure of all information regarding public policy issues so that the citizens can hold to account their government if at fault. This is per the provisions of the constitution of Zimbabwe. Section 62 of our constitution which falls in Chapter 4, the declaration of rights, talks of the right for every Zimbabwean citizen or any permanent resident to access information held by the state or by any institution or agency of the government. More to that, the supreme document of the land, the constitution, further provides in section 9(h) under the principles of public administration that the public must be provided with timely, accessible and accurate information. Against this background, Project Vote 263 will seek to empower the general citizens to hold the government to account and that they be transparent around issues to do with public policies.
Project Vote 263 is a leading national, non-partisan and non-profit youth led organization formed as an initiative to foster and promote youth participation in governacance issues.
